Years in the making, the Sycamore album is a song cycle that is meant to be consumed in one unadulterated blast. It’s based on an unpublished novel about a fifteen-year-old girl desperately trying to reconnect with her father, and it features moments quiet, bombastic, and just about everywhere in between.
It was recorded by Chris Shepard at Chicago Recording Company and mixed by Manny Sanchez at I.V. Lab Studios in Chicago. It features Marisa Fiorito (vocals), Steve Kouba (piano), Marcin Fahmy (keyboards), Tad Santos (bass & vocals), John Scholvin (guitar), and Blake Cooper (drums), as well as The Apollo Chorus (directed by Dr. Stephen Alltop), Agnieszka Kozlowska (violin), Iordanka Kissiova (violin), Kamen Petkov (violin), Sharon Chung (viola), Constance Dee (viola), Abby Eddy (cello), Alicia Takushi (cello), Kristie Lee (string bass), Woody Ma (trumpet), Marques Carroll (trumpet), Nik Krimm (vocals), and Devin Arkin (vocals). The album cover and booklet were designed by Lauren Paat Loehr, with photography by Jamie Cronk Rogers.
